Our story
begins and ends
in a small town
In 1958 Karan Pregitzer and Jerry Stone opened the first Northern Michigan "A&W drive-in". By 1960 the drive-in changed hands to the Hortons' and the Charcoal Room was added, thus the restaurant became known as the "A&W and Charcoal Room". "Wood Winds Restaurant" became the new name in 1972.
The Wiles bought "Wood Winds Restaurant" in 1976 and operated until 1990 when it was purchased by Leslie and Carolyn Tennant. Today the "Wood Winds Restaurant" is owned and operated by Carolyn Zampich and Les Tennant JR.
We are conveniently located
near many area attractions such as:
Ocqueoc Falls, Black Lake, Onaway State Park, both Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, as well as Mackinaw area and more!
